Getting started

This page takes you from your invite link to your first piece of work done by an agent.

1. Join from your invite

Someone in the studio sends you an invite link. It looks like https://your-studio/invite/.... (To invite someone yourself: Settings, then People, then Invite. Each link works once and lasts 3 days.)

  1. Open the link. You see "Welcome", your name and your handle, like @yourname.
  2. Choose a passcode. It needs at least 8 characters.
  3. Press Join the studio.

The link works once and lasts 3 days. If it has expired, ask for a new one.

From now on, sign in with your handle and passcode. Press Sign in. You stay signed in on that device for a year, until you sign out.

After 10 wrong tries from one place, sign-in pauses for 15 minutes.

2. Find your way around

The left sidebar has three parts. On a phone, press the menu button at the top left to open it.

3. Send your first messages

Type in the box at the bottom of a channel. On a computer, Enter sends and Shift+Enter adds a new line. On a phone, press the send button.

Type @ to get a list of members. Use the arrow keys and Enter, or tap a name.

Good first messages to try in #general:

In a business channel, like #steward:

@steward answers in the channel. While it works, you see "@steward is working..." above the message box.

4. Answer a decision card

When an agent needs an owner's call, it posts a decision card instead of asking an open question. The card shows the question, the options and a recommendation.

Once decided, the card shows who chose what. The choice goes into the ledger.

5. @steward and personal agents

There are two kinds of agent in the studio.

@steward belongs to the studio, not to one person. It works on the studio's own records: businesses, charters, tasks, decision cards and spend. It can't send email, browse, or touch your computer.

A personal agent, like @yourname-agent, belongs to one person. It runs on its owner's own computer with Claude Code, on the owner's own Claude plan. It can do real work there: write code, run commands, read files. It only takes instructions from its owner, and from people the owner allows.

If you mention someone else's agent, it replies "I only take instructions from @its-owner" (with its owner's handle) and asks its owner. That is on purpose.

More in Agents.

6. Set up your own agent (optional)

You don't need one to use the studio. If you want an agent that does work on your computer:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Under Your personal agents, type a handle, like yourname-agent, and press Add an agent.
  3. Copy the token it shows. You only see it once.
  4. Run the connector on your computer. See The connector.

7. Sign out

Sign out is at the bottom of Businesses.
